“Giltebe!” was an exhibition at LevArt in 2023 celebrating the town of Levanger receiving its official Saami name: Levangke. Giltebe! means shine! in south Saami. Artists taking part of the exhibition was Amanda Fayant, Guri Simone Øveraas, Meerke Laimi Thomasson Vekterli and Sissel M Bergh. In december 2012/ january 2013 Sissel M Bergh and Frode Fjellheim was invited to LevArt to present their ongoing research work “Dalvedh” (to reappear after being gone for some time/ like finding something when the melting of snow) - about how South Sami history and cultural presence have been tried to be erased. We made a local research-station in Levangke, to bring history back. In the year that followed Sissel and LevArt curator Anne-Gro Erikstad travelled the land to see and understand what is called Innherred in Norwegian and Gaske-laante (In between (the fjord and the lakes) land) in South Saami. This process also lead to “Giltebe!”. The works Sissel presented in the exhibition was a research into the original meaning of the place name Levanger, a 3-dimensional map from the fjord to the mountains made by paper eaten by rain, wind and snails. And a moose hide with the center sun/mother - mirroring the center of gievrie, drums that predicts the future.
